Our commitment to the environment

Embark on an eco-friendly adventure with Power To The Pedal! Our commitment to sustainable tourism means that our electric bike tours offer a zero-emissions way to explore Auckland. Get ready to discover the Auckland in a whole new way and join us in preserving the beauty of the city and its environment.

Measures we have taken ensure we have a light a footprint as possible include:

  • Measuring the carbon footprint of our operations using the Toitu tool (more details here). We have an extremely small carbon footprint and have offset the emissions that we do make (i.e. to become a net zero carbon business) through donation to Trees that Count, a New Zealand native tree restoration project
  • Encouraging our customers to learn about and make the Tiaki Promise (more details below)
  • Enthusiastically advocating cycling (to our potential customers and anyone else who will listen!) as the best way to get around Auckland
  • Using locally-made, environmentally-friendly bike cleaning and maintenance products wherever we can
  • Fastidiously maintaining our electric bikes, to avoid unnecessary wear of parts (and the resultant need to buy/consume lots of replacement parts)
  • No longer providing single-use plastic bottles of water to each rider – our riders are encouraged to bring their own drink bottle, which can be filled at a water fountain next to the meeting point for our tours and rentals

Qualmark Award

We’re very proud to have achieved a Qualmark Silver award in recognition of the work we’re doing to make Power to the Pedal an exceptional, sustainable experience for our customers.

Qualmark is a certification that helps customers assess the information they are presented with about tourism experiences and acts as the final seal of approval that signifies the experience they are paying for is one of the most high quality, safe and sustainable experiences New Zealand has to offer. They also help businesses become more sustainable from a people, planet and profit perspective.

A Silver Award is “evidence of a sophisticated tourism business that consistently exceeds visitor expectations”. Proactive leadership and management ensure that a culture of high performance is evident throughout the entire business. The business has a real focus on continuously improving their economic, social and environmental performance to ensure the tourism product they deliver is a genuine, constantly improving sustainable experience.

Tiaki promise

We are proud upholders of the Tiaki Promise. We recognise our duty as an operator in Aotearoa to act responsibly in the way that we treat the whenua (the land), taiao (nature/environment) and our tāngata (people). These principals of tiaki inform how we work and interact everyday. You can learn more about the #TiakiPromise here
